Artificial Insemination from JSR Genetics

The top 2% of JSR Genetics boars are selected for use within the JSR Genetics Semen Delivery Service (SDS) on their ability to improve the net return per slaughter pig on commercial pig farms. This is typically in the region of £5.00 per slaughter pig and is accrued as a combination of an improved efficiency of production and the ability to fulfill contract specifications to obtain the maximum carcass value.

The boars are replaced at regular intervals to maintain the genetic improvement and quality of product. All boars entering the SDS are supplied from the JSR Genetics nucleus units or units monitored by the company health scheme. Prior to entry all boars are sited in a bio-secure, off-site isolation unit for at least 6 weeks. Here they are tested according to EU or domestic licence protocols. At the end of successfully completing the isolation period and before the boars are admitted to the SDS, a final health check with the source unit's supervising veterinarian is undertaken to ensure that there has been no change of health status since leaving the unit, thereby protecting the health of the SDS.

JSR Genetics has 5 SDS centres strategically placed in the north, east and central areas of the UK, linked via the JSR Genetics Cool Link courier delivery service. This, in combination with guaranteed RMSD mail, offers nationwide coverage and the ability to meet market demands with a quality service. The AI centres operate within their own quality control procedures; these procedures cover all aspects of the SDS process including pig health procedures and hygiene standards.

What is GOAL 2000 and how does it work?

The GOAL 2000 Scheme offers you the opportunity of securing first class semen by leasing your selected boar that is looked after on your behalf by one of the JSR Genetics SDS Centres. This service will provide you with top class genetics without the worry of looking after a top class boar.

The scheme allows you to handpick a boar to suit your own specific market requirements. You enter into a two-year contract from the day you take up the facility. The agreement provides for the upgrading of boars on a regular basis to maintain maximum genetic improvement. A simple two-year contract gives you all the security you need.
