Food Quality Centre
At JSR, we recognise that animals not only need to perform on farm, but also need to give an exceptional eating quality experience to the consumer. The Food Quality Centre was established to undertake research for retailers and to be used as an invaluable test bed for our own products.
Located at the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School, which was established by JSR in 2011, a trained taste panel provide food analysis services to the food industry on a variety of products.
The team are led by Caroline Mitchell who has an MSc in Meat Science and Technology from Bristol University.
Taste panellists are trained to give objective product assessment on taste, colour and smell with accompanying statistical analysis.
We can offer three types of taste panel service
- Rapid Test - quick and cost effective to benchmark a product with easy analysis. This is ideal for companies who want to know how their product compares to their competitors’
- Detailed Test and Analysis - scientifically more rigorous using Genstat statistical analysis. This is for companies looking for product comparisons that they can use in business and publish in promotional information.
- Consumer Taste Panel - to provide written and verbal feedback reflecting a cross section of consumer opinion and perception
In addition, Caroline and her team provide a comprehensive range of services for supply chain optimisation and management, as well as offering advice on welfare and production in livestock systems. Work has so far been carried out on pork, beef, chicken and lamb as well as peas and pies.
