Multiplication
JSR Pig Production produces breeding stock for JSR Genetics using GP Landrace and GP Large Whites from the high health nucleus.
- The 4 multiplication units are ideally located to maintain a settled health status that is regularly monitored, with routine testing for the JSR Health Scheme.
- The strict bio security and production protocols along with the high attention to detail constantly practised are important to optimise performance and produce high quality products.
- The herds operate with either GP Large White or GP Landrace females mating with either pure bred boars or pyramid semen to produce the Genepacker 90 (parent female)
Commercial Production
In view of the location, scale, changing customer requirements and the excellent genetic improvement achieved in recent years, JSR Pig Production now operates 2220 Genepacker sows on 3 units producing slaughter stock between 74-80 kilos deadweight. The Superlean Yorker and Titan boars are supplied from our sire line nucleus units.
The commercial units are averaging almost 21 pigs/sold/sow/annum with the top unit weaning 26 pigs/sow/annum.
All pigs are marketed on long-term contracts.
The commercial units aim to optimise breeding and growth performance whilst also focussing on over-head and feed cost per kilo produced. From January 2005 all pig productions units will operate without antibiotic growth promoters in pig diets.
Training is critical in achieving high performance levels and in order to deliver the training JSR Farms is a leading member of the Agskills Training Group.
