Research & Genetics

JSR have a broad and robust research and genetics programme across many centres of academic excellence in both the UK and overseas. 

These are based around the seven key areas of Quantitative Genetics, Meat Science, Health and Welfare, Reproduction, Molecular Genetics and Genomics  and finally Housing and Nutrition.  The work undertaken on each individual site is summarised below.

Other Locations:

DNAGenotek (Canada) - JSR, in a Joint investigation with Cell Analysis and the University of Kent are developing non-invasive DNA sampling methods in pigs.

University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada) - JSR conduct investigative research into the genomics in pigs that cause boar taint in the entire male pig carcases.

Sodergard Nucleus Unit (Furulund, Sweden) - Nucleus Unit site for genetic development of JSR Hampshire & Tenderlean sire lines.
